Construction of the new shelter
It had long been clear that the old shelter, built in 1964, had become too small, as more and more animals were being taken in and needed care. A solution had to be found. After a long period of planning and construction, the time had finally come! In September 2012, the new shelter was inaugurated with great fanfare on the site, right next to the old one. Many distinguished guests, animal lovers, and supporters joined us in celebrating this reopening.
In the years following the opening, we took in and housed an average of 966 animals per year, including approximately 512 dogs and 454 cats. But in the meantime, the old cat section had also become too small and had to be expanded. You can find more information under the heading “Projects – In-House Veterinary Clinic.”
In this new shelter, the Lëtzebuerger Déierschutzliga and the Déierenasyl are united under one roof for the first time, allowing them to collaborate even more easily and effectively.
We would like to take this opportunity to once again extend our heartfelt thanks to all our supporters and donors! Thanks to your help, we have been able to create a modern, animal-friendly shelter and thus further strengthen our commitment to animal protection.
