In-house veterinary clinic and solar park
2026: Solar Park and Dog Park
The construction of the solar installation was part of a larger project. The numerous solar panels not only generate electricity but also provide shade for the parking lot and part of the large dog park. The dog park was also renovated: it was resurfaced and divided into two areas so that more dogs can enjoy this pleasant space.
2025: Opening of the in-house veterinary clinic
The completion of our in-house veterinary clinic has significantly improved the situation during kitten season.
It’s spring, and the first kittens and pregnant cats are being brought to the shelter. What starts out as a pleasant and heartwarming time quickly becomes a challenge for the shelter. Quarantine spaces remain occupied for weeks, many animals are sick or feral, and both our capacity and staff quickly reach their limits.
Many kittens have irritated eyes and are infested with fleas and worms; some are infected with giardiasis or parvovirus. Strict hygiene measures are essential. It is not until they are eight weeks old that the kittens can be vaccinated, microchipped, and made available for adoption—provided, of course, that they are in good health.
Previously, there were ten quarantine cages available to house all new arrivals, which is far from enough in the summer—when most kittens arrive at the shelter—because there is then not enough space for abandoned or stray adult cats. Furthermore, despite all precautionary measures, the risk of infection remains very high for kittens.
The distances between the in-house veterinary clinic, the storage room, and the kitchen—where meals are prepared and laundry is done—are short; everything needed is within easy reach, and the cat families finally have the space they need. Now, the kittens at Déierenasyl finally have more space to thrive and, at the same time, more fun romping and playing.
A big thank you to all the donors and supporters who made this wonderful project possible. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Schmit-Dambach Foundation for its generous donation.
