Surrendering an animal
Procedure for Surrendering an Animal
If you need to give up your pet—whether it’s a dog or a cat—please contact us by phone. Important: Only the owner may surrender the animal.
During the call, we will ask you for detailed information about the animal—including its breed, temperament, and behavior—as well as the reasons for surrendering it. The more information we have, the easier it will be for us to ensure optimal and seamless care—for example, in the event of illness—and then to find a suitable new home. It is therefore in the animal’s best interest that we know as much as possible about it.
Once all questions have been clarified, an appointment will be scheduled so you can bring the animal to the shelter. Please be on time for your appointment, as we reserve a spot for your dog or cat on that day. If you are unable to bring your pet to us, please let us know in advance so that we can assign that spot to another animal and, if necessary, schedule a new appointment with you. On the day of drop-off, please also bring the vaccination record and, if applicable, any other documents, medications, and test results.
The shelter staff will then take care of the animal, and hopefully your dog or cat will quickly find a new family.
